The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) is one of the world’s premier horseracing operations with over 13,000 horses under its care, conducting other businesses such as gaming and retailing as well as organizing various charitable events such as its signature Hong Kong Charity Races that raise money for numerous local charities.
HKJC is a publicly listed corporation with over 20 million shareholders and is regulated by the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong. As one of Hong Kong’s major economic contributors – with revenues surpassing $60 billion over 10 years – it also offers social services as well as supporting various sports, education, culture, and medical organizations within Hong Kong.
To ensure the fairness of lottery draws, various measures are put into effect during each draw. Employees from the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s security and customer service departments conduct strict testing of materials used during draws – from balls themselves to their storage box and draw machine being locked away after every use; additionally professional evaluators from outside are employed by HKJC to review each drawing’s results and assess them appropriately.
BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE, organized by Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation with sponsorship by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, seeks to recognize scientific research achievements or transformation with high impact and social value in Hong Kong. It will serve as a platform for Hong Kong scientists to share their achievements with global scientific communities.
Winners of the Prize will have the opportunity to attend HKGNA Masterclasses and perform at concert events in the near future. Honorable Mention Certificates may be awarded to applicants who were unable to pass through to semi-final but show great potential; all decisions made by the Competition Jury are final.
Five scholars from Hong Kong universities were honored with the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2024, taking home over HK$6 Million as prize money for their groundbreaking research in artificial intelligence/robotics/life/health sciences/new materials/energy sources/advanced manufacturing/advanced materials manufacturing. Each laureate shared his/her views/insights regarding collaborative research as a solution for humanity’s problems as well as how emerging technologies offer prospects for scientific development.
BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY is designed to adhere to scientifically rigorous standards, so the Competition has adopted The Charter in order to guarantee impartiality and objectivity during its review process. As per this Charter, operation of THE PRIZE must be overseen by The Board which comprises Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team members; This board will review and interpret articles of The Charter before suggesting important scientific research fields for consideration, appointing members of them and setting requirements for nominating experts; while also being accountable for transparent, objective and fair operation of THE PRIZE overall.
